After writing the whole thing I remembered that one of the next lines in the song is, “Just say the word, and the boys will be right there, with claws at you back to send a chill through the night air,” Seems fitting, a happy accident of musical allusion, I guess.

Good setup and nice style. Nice to see more of this character, and enough of a hint to the monster that could be too revealing—or not.
