When You're Full
Food doesn’t taste any good when you’re full, I say,
For my full stomach gets an empty feeling when I eat some pie,
To which I find myself exclaiming a sarcastic “Yay!”
Followed by a longing, disappointed sigh.
The cookies fresh-from-the-oven no longer taste sweet, but sour,
And the sight of a pizza just makes my stomach feel queasy.
To make matters worse, this lingers for half an hour,
Making the idea of eating more tacos anything but easy.
No one writes about how good that fourth donut was,
Or calls the fourth bite of one’s third slice of pizza “stellar”.
Food that can’t fully be cherished then loses its buzz,
Making room for leftovers in the fridge or the cellar.
When I’m hungry, even broccoli rocks my taste buds.
Yet to call all food all the time great remains bull.
And that is why these always delicious milk duds
Taste awful, not awesome, when I’m full.
