Good god, look at that list of tags! I can only gaze in wonderment, and feel ashamed at never bothering to add any to my own stories. And as for the story, it sets you down right in the middle of the action, no messing (and I love a multi-scene Ficly; haven’t tried that one myself for a while). A great start, looking forward to reading more.

Has a good strong feel to it as a set up. The fact that Handler Solon only just got the vote seems to indicate that all the powers that be aren’t convinced he would make the best person to look after the child makes for dark politics and those that would be glad to see him fail ( always a good plot driver to have some opposition from the start) . Personal quirk about split infinitive moments… He said quietly would read better.
