A tense situation, and a nice consideration of what the final moments might be like. Felt like a sudden shift to present tense at the end, and the first sentence of the third paragraph is a fragment. Otherwise, the feeling of semi-panicked acceptance comes across nicely.
There’s something missing here! I don’t mean that you forgot something or w/e, but just that Sometimes you have to look through everything to find the one thing that should be there. It matters in this piece because, in your last moments, you’d definitely had made sure to look for it. And you wouldn’t have had the mind to think about a single other thing until you found it.
