I was reading this and thinking, “No, no. She can’t mean Franklin the Turtle. I must be reading this wrong.” But you did. I wasn’t.
My wife thinks it’s a mashup that goes to far. But I think it’s a mashup that doesn’t go too far enough. Wait … huh?
What I’m trying to say is bravo to your audacity: for being first, and for bringing an inquisitive character out his … ahem … shell for this challenge.
@jesteram ‘not too far enough’ – I getcha. Partially a lack of character – it took three rewrites to fit in in – and partially not wanting to comppletely destroy Franklin.
@cthulhuburger – not the turtle from Robin Hood. Franklin is a series of kids books – preschool & early readers – and TV show, and DVDs. Which is probably why it weirded out jesteram’s wife to mix it with Stephen King.
Already the only entries to the challenge both mash Dark Tower with something else. I’ve never read the books, but I assume I will eventually. And yeah, I had the same reaction: “Not Franklin the turtle…Ha! It is! That’s great!”
Both of your literary references are beyond me (I have no kids, and I was never a Stephen King fan), but I did enjoy the piece. I just don’t understand why it’s so important that Franklin learn to shoot, but that’s probably my anti-gun liberal bleeding heart speaking. Apologies.
