Make It Work
Ignored and unwanted,
empty and alone,
I can tell that you don’t want me
by your voice and tone.
I watch you smile happily
with everyone but me.
Is there something wrong
that only I can’t see?
I thought that we could make it work
cuz I laugh when I’m with you,
but you don’t and I’ve tried everything.
There is nothing left to do.
I just wanted to be wanted
as more than just a friend
in one of those relationships
where the beginning follows the end.
So I will settle
for what I don’t desire,
a ritual far too familiar
of which so soon I tire.
