I thought she was a brunette, at least in Drake’s bit of the story…somewhere or other. Great ending line all the same, and the second to last paragraph paints an effective scene.

Women have been known to change their hair color and I’m pretty sure that Maryanne has done just that. I picture her original hair color as a fairly nondescript brown. Nick and I share some characteristics, one of which is a preference for redheads. Maryanne knows that.

The hair color, who cares…a dye job is not above her machinations. Who is she there to impress? Baretta, the Gumshoe? or higher aspirations. Only time will tell.

Great use of color in this dreary world. Reminds me of Jessica in that Toon Movie years ago. She was a maneater too…inspiration?

Not a conscious inspiration, certainly, but there are certainly similarities. “I’m not a bad girl; I’m just written that way.”

Great installment, oozing atmosphere. I reckon the chanteuse is worth keeping an eye on.
