A Risky Escape

Despite the pain, Merlin managed a wry smile as he thought, who would have guessed my sister’s own desire to kill me would actually save my life?

Peering through blurry eyes, he watched as Morgan la Fay exchanged blows with the black armored knight. Even as his vision dimmed and his thoughts became sluggish he could tell she wouldn’t hold long in this fight. With no energy to aid her sorcerously, Merlin did the only thing he could think of.

He drew a flashing green orb from a hidden pocket and held it out. It was a world-traveler, only created with great difficulty. Using the last of his strength, he crushed it in his hand, feeling the glass break and watching the green light escape. It encompassed him and his sister, the light bending and swirling into a thousand hues.

Time slowed as the spell took effect, and Merlin closed his eyes. He wondered to which world they would travel, and whether it was a mistake to bring his sister along. But she had saved him.

He hoped he would wake up.
