If there was a favorites list, I would add this story to mine. The setting is described with perfect details. Nameless characters can represent anyone the reader desires. Intimate, potent, masterfully written, and leaves a lingering worry as the moment slips away from her, and us.
Imagery too good, too completely visible and beautiful, too so specific as to qualify as a photograph or dream – ah man this is hard to even read through without pausing while getting absorbed in the images! Amazing! “slivers in the running water”
This is truly beautiful. The imagery is beautiful as those above have said, but what makes it soar is the way the language is constructed- the word choice is poetry in itself. I’m really floored by this.
To share my own experience reading this incredible piece of work, I was listening to music on shuffle and Cat Power’s Good Woman came on when I started to read. Wow, this was beautiful and fate decided for it to be extra emotional for me. So, great job.
This piece has some really poignant moments, “She touched the stone wall: warm surface, cold beneath.” is one of my favorites along with “Together they watched the day die”. Although I’ve used that analogy to describe a sunset I enjoyed how simply it was put. Well done.
