Otellio almost certainly knew about the necklace before they were married (Maryanne was seen with it after her divorce from Stone and I think she likely wore it in the Topaz which is probably where she met Otellio) but he may not have realized at the time that it had any significant value.

That could well be. I would guess that Otellio learned about the value of the gem from DiSibio who would know about such things. DiSibio may have demanded it as collateral.

Well, this is easy. Now she just has to go politely ask Mr. D for her diamond back. Case solved, no mystery here.
