The Real Summer Reading List

Three things are certain in life: Death, Taxes, and Summer Reading. At the end of every school year, English teachers across the nation assign students summer reading over summer break in preparation for English Class next year.As students often find ways to put it off or take little interest in the books they read, here’s a suggested revision to make a new and improved summer reading list:

Dr. Seuss’ Oh, The Places You’ll Go: C’mon. Who doesn’t love an adventure? At a time of the year when many students go on summer vacations, Oh, The Places You’ll Go would be a perfect lead in to summer vacation. While novels such as Moby Dick have such bland words like “whale,” Seuss expands students’ vocab with words like “Buxbaum” and “Hakken-Kraks”.websites ever made: it allows for students to connect with the characters in the text

Moby Dick: Just kidding. Why spend as much time as Captain Ahab spends hunting a whale when you could read literary classics like the ones mentioned above?
