I am somewhat confused here as to the role/rank of these two. In the prequel I stated that the Field General commanded 20,000 troops. A huge number in one camp even by today’s standards. This is not a group that would be susceptible to a sneak attack in camp at night.
Additionally, if these two are ranking officers or commanders or chieftain level, they would never be spying so close to the enemy camp and leave their own camp unattended to even have this conversation. I am assuming these are scouts who will report back to some higher authority.
I do like the motivations you establish and create some sympathy for the Barbarians…
@Drake: Take from this what you will, if anything at all. These two are not scouts or spies nor are they spying and they aren’t particularly close to your camp. Your 20,000 troops is a lot. However, the reason to field a force of that size is because you think you might need it.
The change of perspective is a nice complement to the first installment. Written in a traditionally stagey historical fiction style, and why not? It works well.
