Ascension: Clearance
The two soldiers wielded their discipline and self-restraint as confidently as they did their weapons, but nonetheless there was a curiosity in the air that even the oppressive rumble of USNE equipment could not entirely suppress.
There’s always a bigger fish, I thought to myself grimly.
The other two nameless soldiers were taken away for a separate debriefing. To be the subject of such concern was a curious feeling; comforting in its security but concerning in the unspoken conditions.
Hart smiled grimly in our own debriefing room.
“Great job out there, Reckall. I’d never believe we only started on you a few months ago. The team got a ton of data – they’ll be busy for a next few weeks at least.”
“What happens now?”
“The team want to talk to you briefly, but then you’re clear. Get something to eat, relax for a few hours. Major Namassar will be up to talk to you at 2000 sharp.”
“Right. Any idea…?”
“None whatsoever. See you soon.”
