The Big Bang (Superhero Black Hole, part 135)

“Hasten the arrival of the unknown assailants, and likely hasten our demise,” interjected Al from across the room.

“We don’t know that they’re coming to kill us!”

Simultaneously, everyone gave me an “are-you-serious?” face.

Sheepishly, I added, “We don’t know technically.”

“I did not say it would be them who would hasten our demise,” Al continued, “but rather it would be the force of the requisite amount of detonated explosives it would take to destroy the Grid.”

“But mightn’t the explosion also be enough to blow up whatever’s on the other side?”

“It is a possibility,” said Al. “But it is one of many possible possibilities.”

Zoe stood up. “Dude, you are freakishly devoted to the idea of killing us all martyr-ishly, without even knowing how much danger we’re really in, and I am not digging it.”

“Well, neither am I, Zoe!”

“So why even entertain the notion right now?! I do not want to die!”

“And you think I do?! You think I want any of us to die today?! You think I want you to die…?”
