Trust: A Brief Reflection

Howard sat down on his aging, brown leather chair. He drew a long breath to lighten his sickened heart. After many years of being with his wife, June, he decided that the consequences of his infidelities should not fall upon her. Before he began to pack his things, he decided to reflect:

“Trust is a mirror. Need I say more? Once a promise is broken, it makes a small, profound crack. When we practice deceit, it will not be long before our reflection deforms. We may attempt to fix the damage, but, in the end, we must pay the cost in full. Honestly, I have had to replace many mirrors. How can we prevent ourselves from shattering? It’s a question behind every lie we tell, every spectacle we’ve caused, or taken part of. As I stare into my reflection, each crack broadens, revealing what I did to get where I am today. Trust is a mirror. In fact, it’s anything that can be mutilated, broken, or taken apart. Trust, we are here to cherish the benefits of our good deeds, of our friendships, of love, not to abuse them.”
