Ascension II: A Road to Nowhere
Juno had a TAE (Terran Atmospheric Equivalent) of .86, which meant that humans could survive without a spacesuit. It did not mean that Juno was a nice place to be outside.
Pitcher stepped through the portal to the PMH way station and was immediately lost. Fifty meters ahead was the highway, vehicles were sparse, but a black cruiser was parked at the curb. Something drew him to the passenger door. It slid open, the man inside was nondescript, on purpose…
“Get in Pitcher, let’s take a ride.” He did. “So, how’s life treatin’ ya?”
“Better than yesterday.”
“I see that, what did you do, 2 years in JDC? Shit that place is designed to kill ya in 1.”
“Yeah, didn’t form too many long term relationships…”
“Is your head cleaned up with all that time to focus?”
“Focus, yeah.”
“Good because I need you to clean up something for me.” A picture appeared on the center console. “This guy will show up in JS soon, you keep tabs on him, then report back to me.”
“Just like that?”
“Well your out, so your back in.”
