Ascension II: Matters of the Hart
One of Reckall’s drones (or was it Reckall himself?) restrained Bates and took him away. After most of the crew had returned to their meals and conversations, Ishikawa was taken aside.
“Captain Ishikawa, this is Master Sergeant Hart.”
“Master Sergeant.”
“Captain.”
“We’ve completed a search of the wreck, Captain. It’s more a debris field, and there was little worth having. One or two boxes of condensed rations and various ammunition blocks for myself and the shuttles. We also recovered one of the flight recorders – but most importantly, recovered orders to render what assistance may be necessary on your journey to find the Synod and make them pay.”
The captain nodded cautiously, and gestured for them to continue.
“However, I highly doubt that the orders extend to full military authority. So while I can freely order my people to follow you, it’s unlikely that we’ll be receiving external support. Of any kind. You see what I mean.”
