“…which is why further investigation is necessary before other sky structures are licensed for construction. Thank you.”

The auditorium filled with applause as Genria returned to her bench. “Well done,” Cahenna praised in a whisper. Genria smiled bashfully in thanks, turning back toward the podium where the moderator was dismissing the attendants. Genria felt light headed – she almost could not believe she had spoken so decisively against her opponent. It was all thanks to her sister-in-law. Cahenna encouraged her, believed in her. Then an image of Hable and the boys resurfaced in her mind, and the guilt came crashing back to undermine her sense of victory.

Cahenna must have noticed a change. “You were marvelous. We leave in good standing. Come, I want to introduce you to someone.”

“Who might that be?” Genria asked distractedly, gathering her notes and slipping them into her bag.

“A new friend, very influential. He has been studying the Sky Monastery and has learned some very interesting things.”
