Overhearing her parents conversation

""Yeah, they’ve got Dan over in ICU. He’s got a minor concussion and a broken collar bone."

“That boy is lucky to be alive.”

My parents had been scrambling back and forth. They had just finished up with the Doctor and were talking with Dan’s parents. They never took much of a liking to him, they always told me he was too wild. I never listened.

“Kelly Dear, you really should be rela-”

“Mom, I told you, I’m fine!” I interrupted. “Just tell me how Dan is doing.”

“He’s in pretty bad shape, luckily for you, the truck hit on his side of the car.”

“MOM!” Why would you even say that!?"

“Kelly, that boy could have been the death of you. I’ve been telling you all these years that he was nothing but trouble and look at you now! Look at him!”

“Mom, we are NOT having this conversation! You know how I feel about him.

I started for the door. “I can’t deal with this, I have to go see him!”

“Kelly! Get back here! Kelly, you can’t just leave.”

“I’m going to see him, Mom!”
