I often wonder if one would think that at 100; living too long.

Oh but the wisdom and knowlege she must have. My grandmother lived to be 99 and 7mo and I think if she has been aware of her age she would have thought this- then I have a friend who is 98 and she is sharp as a tack and loves life. It is a state of mind

I do take that on board; I was trying to imagine what it would feel like to be bed-bound at 100, but with your cognitive abilities surviving unscathed. Making her so quick-witted and culturally attune could mean her true voice doesn’t really come through.

Then again, we don’t have an indicator of when this story takes place. If it’s 2070, our protag would have come of age during the hair metal 80’s and her youthful references would fit the character, which is the way I read it. Well done!

Thanks! Yeah, I was writing it as if I was 100, but it’s a little too grounded in our contemporary time-period (the references to the Queen and Japan, for example). But perhaps in 2070 Japan will still be renowned for its long-lived citizens, and the UK will be ruled by Queen Elizabeth III. ;) Thanks again!
