I see “Hanging” and I go right to David Carradine. Didn’t know he recorded any songs.

I didn’t know the song, but DoItForScience’s comment tipped me off as to what it was, and I’m having a listen right now on Spotify. Doesn’t seem to be that close to the song, but frankly I much prefer your story. The image of the pub is especially vivid, and the little detail of it still being “our” flat just puts the icing on the cake. Sad, beautiful, and very good.
