Of course I’m a writer of prose who dabbles in poetry, so I’m not sure where that leaves me, but I still like it.

Great metaphors! This was a powerful argument for reading good, rich, engaging books, let alone writing vivid, emotional, and layered pieces. I think you may get some counter argument from some poets, but they have their place, too. :)
