Dar to the Williams
Dar Williams. When I hear her music, well, I can’t really explain it. I’m not really a person who watches interviews or listens to podcasts, so other than her music, I know nothing about her. Her name is Dar Williams, which is a pretty cool name.
She sings mostly about peace, about being a woman and dealing with womenly problems, such as heartbreak (I Won’t be Your Yoko Ono), cat fights (As Cool As I am), and conflicting religions (Christians and the Pagans).
She’s faced these things and writes her music about them. I think that that takes talent and balls. I know that if I could write music, I don’t think I’d be able to write like she does, so ironicly, so intensely.
Mortal City is one of those songs you have to listen to a few times and then go find the lyrics and read them a few times, and then you understand. When I went through this porcess I cried. I don’t know why, either. Is that strange, or what? Music is such a powerful thing, but Dar takes the regins and makes it her bitch.
