“They both turned to stone” is rather ambiguous, coming so soon after “two luminescent eyes”. I had to read carefully before I saw that the answer to “both what?” is not supposed to be “eyes”.

Other than that, I really like this.

(I believe MJY is confusing gargoyles with … cockatrices, probably … but anyway, any reader of Terry Pratchett knows that gargoyles eat pigeons.)

Definitely some confusion over the species. A gargoyle is an old-fashioned stone waterspout carved to look like a monster, and (at least traditionally) not a type of monster at all. Cockatrice is a better fit, but there may be other candidates too.

both are fictional beasts but their forms are quite different.
I was picturing Fenris as a gargoyle, whereupon the sun rises as soon as he and the female meet. but like I said.. ran out of characters..

Then I misunderstood the story. I thought it was about the two monsters turning each other into stone with their stare.
