Not sure this is even close to the quality bar that others have set before me, and there are several things about the way I’ve got the words on the page that I really don’t like. But I needed it out of my head if I was going to have any chance of sleeping tonight! :-)
It’s going to take me a while to get back to the beginning of this story, but I am impressed with your episode. It is rich with all the mystery and unexplained happenings that seem characteristic of the ongoing narrative.
I think my favorite part of this piece is the realization that the Traveler isn’t confined by gender. I really like it actually, makes me wonder what else he isn’t confined by. I also like that it felt natural, instead of something new and amazing he was experiencing for the first time. And I am sad for him that it was the city that ruined it, not him.
What an interesting turn. (I’ve been absent from Ficly for quite a while, hence the delay in commenting.) Looks like no matter who the Traveler meets, Fate intervenes…
