Moment Of Clarity

The menacing thick grey dust cloud blanketed the area, the sound of debris falling reverberated around the area. Standing together, separated only by a thin, hazy energy field were two lone figures. Standing mere inches away from eachother, neither dared to move.
“I’m so sorry” a broken and tearful voice whispered to him. He raised his head to meet the gaze of Lucy.
“I’m so so sorry” she repeated, the words ever more muffled from the tears she could not hold back.
“You have nothing to be sorry for, we all knew this might happen” replied Marcus, with nothing other than pure sincerity in his voice. As her eyes met his in a look that seemed to last forever, all his fears were now gone.
“I love you, I have loved you for so long, I always will” he told her, with a smile on his face.
Pushing his hand through the energy field he reached for her trembling hand. As the hands came together, a deep breath came from Marcus’ mouth and in one graceful motion, he faded to dust and was swept away by the cool summer breeze
