I had just come out from another one of my bad relationships and like always I rang Ella. I dialed her number and listened to the phone ring. It took a while but eventually her dad picked up.

“Hey. Is Ella there?”

“Oh, Hello Aaron…Ella isn’t here right now”

“Well…can you please tell her to ring me soon…?”

“Sure, I’ll let her know.”

Click.

I cried for a while that night. And I never got that call.

Ella didn’t come to school the next day or for the next week. At first I thought she had gone on holiday with her family – she said that they were going to America soon. But one day I got a call from the local hospital. They said that Ella had cancer. They said that she forbade them from telling me; they said that she was going to die…
