Connie watched Tessa’s expression fade in and out of You’re joking. and What? as she digested the information. Tess wasn’t sure whether to laugh out loud or run screaming. So she hid behind a coffee cup.

“Are you serious?” is what she finally decided on saying after she pulled the mug away.

“Yes. Very much so.” Connie turned to Perry, who was silently sorting through a pile of junk the two had set aside. “Would it kill you to back me up here?” Connie hissed and whacked him in the back of the head with a rolled up towel.

“Fine, fine! What do you want me to say?”

“I don’t know! Say something!”

“Yeah. She’s serious,” Perry muttered.
