I was just about to hang up when I heard dad pick up the phone. “Yeah?” His customary, eloquent greeting.
“Hi, dad. Catch you at a bad time?” I asked.
“Nah. Had to run downstairs to catch the phone. The one upstairs was dead.”
“You up to anything?”
“Just surfing the net.” Uh-oh. Always dangerous with him.
Before I could stop myself, I asked, “Find anything interesting?” I immediately cringed. I really didn’t want to know, did I?
“Man, I found this totally amazing site! You’re not going to believe this!” Oh, crap. Here it comes. “Did you know the moon landings were faked?!”
“Oh, Christ on a crutch, dad…”
“No, seriously, this guy figured it all out. Like how it had to be on a set because there’s no stars in any picture…”
“…and there’s a shot of the flag waving in the wind…”
“..and how there’s no way they could have survived the Van Allen…”
“You were an engineer for NASA on the Apollo program!”
“Well… Everyone makes mistakes… Right?”
