“Yeah, but I can’t, I just donated blood so I can’t smoke for six hours,” I said, not wanting to sound like a complete loser. Frank nodded.
I sighed, bored. “Do you want to just… go somewhere?” I bravely (and randomly) asked.
“I want to go in the backseat with you,” Frank said, and we both laughed.
“No, really. I do not want to go back to school now. Let’s go somewhere,” I said, not knowing where this new found boldness was coming from.
Of course, he was really high at this point, but he hugged me tight and said, “I would love to go anywhere with you.” He kissed my cheek and started the car. I held on tight to him as we left the school parking lot. I closed my eyes and drifted to sleep. I awoke only a few minutes later, his car parked outside the woods near our school. I looked over at Frank, who looked more upset than I had ever seen him look.
