Savoring The Moment
Sitting on the warm sand, feeling it between my toes, I pondered quietly to myself. It had been a while since Shawn and I had been to the beach and I wanted to savor the time I have with him. Shawn had been in ‘Nam and he finally had come home for the week. As he walked behind me, I stood up consciously looking around me. He smiled sweetly. "I’ve missed you." he said in a soft voice. I was so ecstatic, I hadn’t even realized I had forgotten my wallet. “You’ve forgot your wallet.” Shawn said playfully. “I know!” I said quickly to retaliate for my oversight. We took a walk on the boardwalk, holding hands and smiling at each other. Shawn and I had known each other since we were both 13 and ever since then, we’ve always been the odd people out. Then one day Shawn asked me if I wanted to be odd with him together. I was so happy I met him then. After my 21 birthday, Shawn had enlisted in the Army. He thought he would be there for 1 year but, soon a year turned into 5 years. I was so happy to have him he with me.
