I dig this. It’s simple, stark almost, but flows nicely. The change of format for the ending is nice as well.

Darn… we need an ability to retroactively link a story as a prequel after it is written. This would work pretty well as a prequel to Treebeard’s Ghost’s story The Lonely Void or my Diaries of the Disaster
