Father Returns

Captain’s Log, Ship’s Day 8249

Can this get any worse?

I was reviewing the recycling logs for two days ago when I noticed the numbers didn’t add up. This was a substantial error, too—not just one kilogram, or two kilograms…or even ten kilograms.

It was short by ninety kilograms.

I know that weight can vary over the short term, but ninety kilograms does not lie within the bounds of reason, even with respect to the number of criminals who were recycled.

The only thing I can think of is that somebody somehow figured out how to beat the recycler…and I have my suspicions as to who it is. I fear that Tertius was right, and that we haven’t seen the last of him.

Captain’s Log, Ship’s Day 8250

Today, at noon, my fears were confirmed. Spouting crap that he had been dead and was back again, Tertius burst out of an air duct in the Mess Hall. I have no idea how he did it. He threw the entire mid-ship into pandemonium.

I’ve got Barnum Walden working on contingencies. I hope he can give us some viable options.
