On Butterfly Wings V: Emo

“He proposed to me, you know,” she suddenly said, after the long silence.

“There, in sweet summer of 2159. We were walking by the industrial garden, gazing at the hovercars hanging overhead, when he stopped, right in front of me, and knelt. I remember some passersby stopping to look. One even muttered, ‘this guy’s so old fashioned!’ But they didn’t matter to me. Only he did.”

Okay.
That was one of the cheesiest lines I have ever heard!
Nobody speaks like that, except emos, of course.
I almost laughed out loud.

But when I saw the expression on her face…
She wasn’t joking.

“He died, not long after,” she said, almost a whisper.
“There were a lot of new virus strains in the future. We weren’t naturally immune to them, of course. How could we be?” she continued.

I saw that she was no longer drinking.

__
Outside, the rumbles were getting louder.
I guess she’s stranded here until the storm passes.
