A view from above

I press myself against the rack and listen. The sound of running feet, a whispered command, and then hushed silence. Quickly I turn and climb the rack, as quietly as I can. From above I can see the situation below more clearly and there’s much less chance of someone tripping over me. I am invisible, but not insubstantial.

I see a dozen men, in groups of four scattering down the aisles. Searching for me or what I may have left behind. Two hand grenades now and I could wipe them out, but that would also set off the missiles.

From my perch I watch. It takes two minutes to check each row and they’re methodical. I placed my charge so that it would not be easily found, but if they give more than a cursory examination, they may find it. Four men per row. Two searching, one watches ahead, the other behind.

Twenty seconds is all I need to get to the doors and escape. I see the nearest team head down the aisle next to me and wait 30 seconds. They should all be well away from the door. I turn and leap.
