Witnessing the Event

“Well, that sucks,” our commander remarked, as we watched the asteroid fade away.
And he was right, it really did suck, watching that asteroid slowly (at least in our frame of reference) destroy years of work, after decades of travel, research, and planning.

Decades of my research and planning.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.
You’re probably wondering why we even were near that black hole.
You see our species always had this problem with the hugeness of space, and how to traverse it quickly.

Well, I finally figured it out:
Harnessing gravitational waves of a black hole and using it to create a safe space warper, since collapse would occur inside the hole, and so not affect our reality.

Of course, I needed a black hole to do this.
So we had to go a lot of light years to that one.

And after setting up the very complicated graviton harnessnet,
and making sure its orbit won’t degrade and fall into the hole,
that damn asteroid gets in the stupid way.

..

Oops. I think I wet myself.
Nurse?
