Farewell
The moment seemed to last forever, time seemed to grind to a halt. David’s grip on Sarah’ s hand did not loosen, if anything it seemed to get stronger. Even in this moment when his entire world seemed to slip away, he still felt a burning fire for her in the pit of his stomach.
He had tried so hard to hide his emotions from her since the illness, he had not wanted her to feel any guilt. Only now, the tears began to trickle down his face, to the tip of his nose and then down onto the bed. He still could not bring himself to let go of her hand, it was like if he didn’t let her go, it wasnt true. Of course logic told him differently but logic had no place right now.
Leaning forward, he brushed his fingers through her long blonde hair, the only thing never affected by the illness. Somehow, running his fingers through her hair made him smile, and it filled him with another feeling, happiness.
He kissed her gently on the lips and whispered into her ear “always”
And somewhere, somehow, she heard him.
