From monopoly games that lasted days
From church in the morning

I am from watching cartoons on Saturday mornings
From Dukes of Hazzard and Gilligans Island
From Knightriders, Smurfs, and hr puffinstuff
From Greg Evagon and David Hasselhoff

I come from “try it, you’ll like it”
And “don’t shoot, my gun’s not loaded”
From long walks at night
And poking dead things with sticks
From carrying dead things for miles
And burying them in the yard

On the walls I now see pictures
Faces, smiles from long ago
Stories that my parents tell
Like memories that are my own
