Nice set-up for the scene though, i spy a sequel, so i’m reading on.

I like the first line particularly. I didn’t like “the thought that rushed through my mind..” I’m sure you could find a pacier hook to pull us onto the next instalment.

Intense moment. A little extra scary since it’s in the fact’ly challenge. Nice narrative voice to it as well.

Maybe I should do a search for a picture of a duck with a gun (smile)

On a side note.

Regarding the other incident on the escalator. The courier saw a man step out in front of him at the foot of the escalator with a gun. He drew and fired. He managed to get the guy at the bottom. What he didnt see, was the man behind him, who put a .357 round through the back of his head.

My definition of a healthy paranoia was to be situationally aware at all times. It was the sure and certain knowledge that there are people out there who will kill you to get the change in your pocket, let alone what is on the truck. It was watch your back, eye the entrances and exits. Know who is where and assess their possible threats.

After leaving that job, it took me years to lose that as a constant mindset. I’m now much more relaxed about things, but can switch on this mindset when needed.

now this is how you write a fac-ly without trying too hard, just telling it how it is, and it leaves me begging for more.

One would think the company might spring for some bullet-proof clothing, if only to spare the expense of training a new guy.
