“Ohmigosh.”
Startled, she looked at where the sound came from. She froze. She could only look at Paige, who just caught her red-handed at something she didn’t even mean to do.
“What have you done to h—”
“Shh. Nobody else should know.”
“But—”
“Please. Help me bury him. No one else should know, especially not Jein.”
They cleared the room of all traces of the thing first before tiptoeing to the backyard, to bury it. But luck was not with them.
“What is that?” Mrs. Simmons inquired.
The girls could only look at each other.
“Again, what is that?”
“Uhm, we, I, uh—-”
“I stepped on Jein’s lab cockroach. But it was an accident! I didn’t mean it!”
