One theory, other than simple racial bias, is that we are intrigued by what is most shocking, most random, and therefore most “evil”. Wrong or right, we kind of expect violence to happen in the lower socio-economic groups. Isn’t that what rap songs tell us? That violence is a daily experience? When it happens in places we think of as “safe” then it is more shocking, more salacious, and therefore better T.V.

And yep, all landing squarely on the unhealthy side of human behavior.
