Saving Lives When Destruction Is Inevitable. Is It Pointless?
I was sitting in science class. Mr. Brunning pointed to a picture on the board and said, “This, my darlings, is how you conjure fire. We need to learn this quickly if we want to have any chance of killing our enemies and saving the mortals.” I didn’t remember who I was, or what I was here for, just that I needed to fight them.
Suddenly, a girl about my age was so close to me, our noses were touching. She came out of nowhere and I couldn’t help but shriek. Three freaky things about her: I noticed her chest didn’t expand or retract. She wasn’t breathing. Freaky thing #2: Her face.
It was covered in dirt mixed in with the open wounds on her cheeks. She had lost a few teeth and had a crazed look in her eyes. Her eyes…. Her eyes were terrifying. They were a bright shade of yellow with a bit of brown. But they popped out at you like a rainbow house in suburbia.
Then she disappeared as fast as she came. I felt my heartbeat in my throat.
“That,” Mr.Brunning said, “are the angels who work for God.Our enemies.”
