this was a very nice stand alone piece eben not having read the sequel.

Pained, though I’m not sure I quite followed all of it.

…and this piece is from the PoV of that shadowy figure: the girl by the fire’s lover, dumped without warning.

so she was burned, he was leaving with the elusive “she”.. ouch, i love the description in the middle paragraph!
