Weirdly ambiguous – impossible to tell whether she died from some dread illness, or from a tenderly executed murder. Even impossible to tell whether she’s human at all… or whether he is. Stylish!
Okay, and all the more impressive now that I see this is part of the one syllable challenge. Very nicely wrought, complete story using only one syllable words.
soft warm soil? interesting choice of description, i mean many times it is referred to as cold, so this stuck with me.. there is indeed a mystery here, was it a crime of passion, or simply a lost lover?
I agree with the others, this was sweetly ambiguous. I’m leaning more toward illness than murder, though, as I can’t picture someone taking a break in the middle of killing another person to go dig their grave, then coming back to finish the job.
Agree with everyone, and certainly wondering is she was even human. A plant of some kind? Hard to imagine with the reference to eyes, but second to last sentence… what the earth gave him to love? Mysterious…
