Not Every Day
I wake up the next day, it’s 4:00 in the afternoon, and he’s standing there. I’m not scared of him in the daylight.
“You don’t need this, Liam.” He tells me. “You could come with me and leave this world behind.”
“Shut up.” I tell him nonchalantly.
“You don’t need her-”
“Shut up.”
I shower and call her back. We make plans to meet at the park in an hour.
He follows me out of the house. He doesn’t walk behind me, he just appears in random places ahead of me. Fast as a magic trick.
Poof.
I see her waiting for me on a bench. I jog over to her and sit down next to her.
We talk for a while.
She smiles at me and I forget, if not for a second, that he is stand right. behind. me.
“Kill her.” He says.
I feel anger boil under my skin.
I want yell at him, but I remember no one else can see him but me.
“You alright?” She asks.
“Yeah, I’m okay.” I lie.
