But it did remind me of a poem we had to read in English a while ago, it was written in the 1800s or early 1900s and had a similar storyline. This is the type of story that you hope is fiction, but know it does actually happen. Really well written tho.

This feels distant, like a memory, there is a lot of telling us what went on, so we feel like this is seconhdand, that we aren’t THERE. The reveal is still a shock, though.

i agree with EH. it feels as if the story was told either long after the fact or during the shock period that followed.
