I like some of the details, like the “unnatural” shade of green and the eerie sunlight. I’ve never heard of a sunlight being eerie, but it works.

I live in an area that was completely deforested at one point. They’ve reseeded the lands and now they’re full rich forests again. But you have to wonder what it would have been like before. Those woods are forever lost and the landscape is forever changed.

Epicormic is the name given to the strange wreath/ garland like folliage which covers the trees in our forrest which has just been devastated by fire. Its natures treatment immediately after the fire and the colours and the whispering sighs as the rain, wind and sun pour their resussitation into their very bowels remind me of this story.

I love the way the museum has tried to recapture the “tree” :) I also like their special suits to play outside, but was surprised the playground survived the acid rains. They must go through playground equipment quickly!

I like this. Sadly, our world may come to this. What a sad day that would be. :(

I don’t think we could ever manage to kill off all trees unless we tried really hard at it. Besides, the general morphic archetype of a tree has evolved 3 times, at least. I don’t think it is a design nature would abandon. No, trees will long outlive humans, I’m sure.

As for the story, I’m shocked at the (as-I-perceive-it) inhumanity of a boy who doesn’t like trees! Oh, the horror of a childhood without trees to climb! Ok, maybe there are a few cultures around our planet where most people don’t ever climb a tree as a kid. I just can’t name them.

Ah the future…..we can only guess. I love to watch the trees blowing and would never consider it a scary thing, but to boys who had never seen them in their glory….yes, I understand their fear. Well written, I like it.

I love this… dystopic writing is where it’s at. Have you ever read Amnesia Moon? This reminds me of a scene in there (very different but still the same kind of feeling of a warning from the future). Excellent. I love trees.

Reminiscent of some of some of Arthur C. Clark’s stuff, especially some of his short stories.
