Dawn Sat Alone
Dawn sat alone at her new cubicle, wondering what the hell had just happened.
She came to work and sat at her cubicle just like any other day. Unlike any other day, her supervisor Valerie walked over looking like she’d just wrestled with the reaper. Valerie said, “So here’s the deal, Dawn… The deal is this. You’ve been reassigned to the North side of the call center. I tried to fight to keep you on my team, but, well, dear. The powers that be made the decision. If you ever need anything, know that I’m here for you. Can you walk with me?”
Valerie grabbed the rolling receptacle that held Dawn’s belongings and slowly wheeled it toward the North side.
“But I liked where I sat,” Dawn protested. “And what about Joe?”
“I’m sure Joe will find out that you have been moved. He’s a pretty sharp guy. Just keep your head up and refuse to lose out there, okay?”
“Right,” Dawn mumbled. “Refuse to lose.”
Then Dawn took her first call at her new cubicle and wondered how she would get through the day without Joe.
