The Witch Everyone Knew

No one would guess that the local priestess was a witch. It was perfect. Plus since I was the priestess, all the witches in the town were safe. I only had the ones who were close to discovering our secrets killed.
“Priestess! We found a witch! May we burn her?” a man asked me. A mob of people held tightly onto a girl.
“Let me see her,” I replied. It was Ardis. Gilly warned me about her. She said that Ardis found one of her spell books.
“She’s a witch! Burn her!” the crowd yelled.
“I’m not a witch! Gilly is! I saw her spell books!” Ardis screamed, tears coming down her eyes.
“First we test her. See if she floats in water,” I said. I lead the mob to the lake. They threw her in. I quietly snapped my fingers, and murmured a spell. I made the water lift her.
“A witch! Burn her!” the people shouted, and pulled her back to shore. They quickly dragged her to the wooden stake at the center of town. The tyed her to it, and piled wood under her. Ardis struggled against the rope.
I threw the torch onto the wood.
