Horrifying Halloween

“Quick! We must hurry! The sun is almost set!” Danuk calls to me. I look up at the sky. He’s right, the sun’s setting. My heart’s beating so fast I think it might burst out of my chest.
“Danuk. Do you think that this year we will be safe?” I ask, voice shaking. His eyes soften, and he puts his arm around me.
“Yes,” he says, and hugs me. Suddenly, everything becomes colder. I look up. The sun has set. It’s night.
“Is everything locked? Are the windows covered?” I frantically ask, running around checking everything.
“Yes, everything should be fine,” Danuk says, and grabs my hand, “calm down. You don’t want to attract attention to our hiding place, do you?” I shake my head. If we attract attention, they will find us. Last time they found Jupo. He was brutally murdered, and was left in pieces on the Elder’s door step. After that, my people hide on this night. Tonight was going to end horribly. It was a full moon.
CRASH!
We turn around, and there they are. Dressed in black, grinning at us.
It was humans.
